Andrea Baumann, Scientific Director, NHSRU, McMaster University site
Jaspreet Ahuja, Research Intern, NHSRU, McMaster University site

2

How to Access and Use Secondary Databases

This webinar demonstrates the use of secondary databases in HHR research, with a focus on the CIHI regulated nursing databases. The webinar highlights the type of information available through the CIHI databases and provides examples of the analyses that can be conducted. Issues related to accessing the data and limitations of the databases will be explored.

Applications and Analysis of a Secondary Database

This webinar focuses on the use of administrative data from the CNO to examine nurse retention in Ontario. It will address the development of the concept of “Stickiness” and how it was applied to the CNO database to analyze the career trajectories of nurses in Ontario. A brief overview on the use of this concept in the literature will also be provided to demonstrate how it supported human resources decision making.
