Service Update

OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) Service Update

There has been a steady decline in use of the online course evaluations system provided by MPS over the last 3 years. A majority of departments are now using the Humanities Online Course Evaluation system as an alternative, with great success. In addition, the current OMR platform/server is being decommissioned by UTS in 2014 as part of their ongoing strategy to eliminate non-supported legacy systems.

As a result, Media Production Services and Humanities Media and Computing have worked together towards developing, expanding and transitioning the remainder of the course evaluations service (including Graduate, TA and Lab evaluations) over to the Humanities online system. This change is now in effect and we would like to take this opportunity to thank John Bell, Director of Humanities Media and Computing, and his talented team for all their help in making this happen.

For more information about the Humanities Online Course Evaluation System please visit http://www.humanities.mcmaster.ca/

Please note the OMR service for exams scanning will continue to be provided by MPS as usual.

Employee Spotlight

Bernice Grasley

Bernice Grasley

A McMaster University alumna, Bernice completed a Bachelor of Physical Education/Bachelor of Arts in 1984. For the following 2 years, she worked for the Provincial Government as the Director of several grants. These projects were created to enhance the Community of the East End of Hamilton by creating after school programs where there were none and setting up Day Camps at several Elementary Schools during the summer. As Director, she was responsible for program creation, staffing, and reconciling the grant monies.

In 1986, Bernice joined McMaster University as a member of the administrative team with Audio Visual Services. In the early 1990s, Printing Services and Audio Visual Services were combined as Media Production Services. Following this restructure, the department witnessed the emerging growth and adoption of digital imaging technologies made possible by computer advances. As a result, Bernice’s role within MPS evolved steadily over the years, taking on more and more production responsibilities from digitizing slides to producing large format posters. In her current role as a Digital Imaging Production Technician, Bernice is responsible for providing a wide variety of digital imaging services such as producing course materials and providing the optical mark recognition (OMR) service to the McMaster campus community. She brings her expertise to bear in wide format production and is very largely responsible for MPS's reputation for the highest quality posters.

Bernice has been married to her husband Dave for 32 years, and is the proud mother of 3 kids (age 25-29) and 1 dog. In addition, she has spent the last 18 years volunteering with various hockey leagues. Currently, she is the president of the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League, responsible for the administration of 650 teams from 92 different associations, ranging from Kingston to Windsor, from Buffalo and Rochester to Sudbury and North Bay. All told, the league represents 11,000 players, making it the single largest female hockey organization in the world.
